Kunchacko Boban, Malayalam cinema actor

Kunchacko Boban is an Indian actor from Malayalam film industry. He is the grandson of famous film producer Kunchacko of erstwhile Udaya Studios and the grandnephew of Appachan. He started his career through the commercially successful film Aniyathipravu by Fazil in 1997 (though his debut was as a child artist in one of Fazil's films from the early 80s). His roles in Fazil's Harikrishnans (1998), and Kamal's Niram (1999) made him one of the popular lead actors of the late 1990s.

During the 2000s he played Deepak Narayan in the commercially successful Swapnakoodu (2003) and Sajan Joseph Alukka in the critical and commercial hit Kasthooriman (2003). Although his films did struggle at the box office during the mid-2000s he did come back in 2009 with Gulumal-The Escape.

He became an instant teenage heartthrob following his first film, the Fazil-directed Aniyathi Pravu (1997). The film was a huge hit on school campuses. His pairing with Shalini was also much appreciated. He stood out among the heroes of the late 1990s, when the middle-aged super stars concentrated on action films. Aniyathipravu continuously screened in a single theatre for 225 days.

Following the success of Aniyathi Pravu, Kunchacko Boban was cast in movies like Nakshathra Tharattu and Mayilppeelikkavu. In Nakshathra Tharattu, he was again cast opposite Shalini. Both films were fairly successful. Then he played a cameo in Fazil's Harikrishnans, which marked the reunion of Mohanlal and Mammootty after 9 years.

Then came a streak of flops like Chandamama, Ingane Oru Nila Pakshi, Prem Poojari, Sahayathrikakku Snehapoorvam, etc. He had a single success in 1998, Kamal's Niram, which featured him opposite Shalini for the final time. Dosth did fairly well, but in an age when Dileep had the Midas Touch, Kunchako's performance was half-charged. Even he did not credit for the Sathyan Anthikkadu's Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka, which performed well at the box office.

His acting skills were appreciated in the movie Ee Sneha theerathu, which fetched him a special award in the Kerala State film awards.

After Niram, his next hits were Kasthoorimaan, in which he had an image makeover with the character Sajan Joseph Alukka IAS, Kilukkam Kilukilukkam and Swapnakkoodu. Though he acted in at least three films a year, all of them flopped in the box office. In 2005 he got married and started concentrating on real estate business and was quite successful. In 2006 and 2007, he did not act much.

He made a comeback in 2008 through Shafi's LollyPop, which also starred Jayasurya and Bhavana. The film did not do well in the box office. In 2009 he again paired up with Jayasurya in Gulumal-The Escape. The film turned out to be superhit and marked his return to the industry. His latest movies Mummy & Me, Sakudumbam Shyamala and Elsamma Enna Annkutty are Super hits at the box office. Now he is one of the busiest and promising STYLISH STAR of 2010.He has a lot of movies which are in a line to complete.

Kunchacko Boban is the grandson of the famous film producer Kunchacko of erstwhile Udaya Studios and the grandnephew of Appachan. Kunchako Boban is married to Priya.
